S|N|A Installs Longest 4 mm LED Screen in U.S. at Salesforce Headquarters

As part of upgrades and renovations at its office tower at 50 Fremont Street in San Francisco, the cloud-based software giant Salesforce hired S|N|A to manufacture and install a high-resolution LED video wall. The indoor LED video screen was installed as part of the lobby wall leading to the 42-story building’s elevators.

The 106-feet-long video display features a tight 4 mm pixel pitch, meaning the center of each pixel is only .16 inches from the center of an adjacent pixel.

It is the longest continuous 4 mm LED screen in the United States.

“For this project, we were excited to roll out a new product type within our S|Video™ line which combines the front-serviceable panel with a tightly spaced 4 mm interior video technology,” said Mitch Leathers, marketing manager for S|N|A. “This greatly reduces the required depth of the display, making it perfect for video wall applications like this one.”

The display is approximately 12’7″ high by 106’5″ wide with 960 pixels high and 8,112 pixels wide. Accounting for the elevator entrance cutouts, the display has almost seven million pixels, comparable to many of the large-format LED spectaculars one would find in Times Square.

“We use the video wall for branding, supplying information, and providing a changing ambiance in the modern lobby space,” said Chase Mattison, program manager for Salesforce’s global real estate operations team. “Visitors to Salesforce are constantly commenting on how amazing our LED display looks.”

To expand its San Francisco headquarters, Salesforce acquired the office tower at 50 Freemont Street in late 2014 and quickly put together renovations plans, including the lobby video wall.

Gensler, the project’s design architect, is also based in San Francisco. In addition to the retrofit nature of the project, one of the critical elements to the design was properly positioning the display around the three elevator entrances. This allows the LED technology to blend in seamlessly with the lobby’s architecture.

According to Carl Hubben, S|N|A project manager, one of the major hurdles and accomplishments during the project was meeting the tight installation deadline preceding Dreamforce, the annual Salesforce conference.

“Because of the upcoming Dreamforce conference and other construction projects in the building, we had a two-week window to get install done,” said Hubben, who coordinated all aspects of the project for S|N|A. “Everyone involved with the project team did an excellent job to deliver the entire project ahead of schedule.”

“Despite the tensions that inevitably come with retrofits and new building construction,” said Mattison, “we were put at ease by S|N|A’s experience, know-how and ultimately results with regard to the LED technology they supplied. Simply put, the media wall is a spectacular addition to our office space.”
