Canon Working on Simulation Projector

Canon was at I/ITSEC 2015, but was not really disclosing much. They had a theater where they were showing a demo of their laser phosphor projector, but they did not want to let us have a look. Apparently, it is a laser phosphor model with 4K resolution. The demo was a blend of two of them side-by-side using a blending solution provided by 3D Perception.

It seems likely this product is based upon the same chassis and engine in the newly released 4K500ST Pro AV LCOS projector, which is targeted for training, museums and galleries, industrial design, and higher education (Canon Claims World’s Lightest DCI Projector). The projector has a native resolution of 4096 x 2400 using Canon’s LCOS panels and 5,000 ANSI lumens. Contrast on this unit is 2500:1 and it can support a 60 fps rate.

A version for the simulation market may include IR for NVG, extreme dimmability, multiple DisplayPort connectors and maybe even some enhanced contrast capability. We will let you know when they release more.
