ASUS Fully Embraces Low Blue Light for Monitors, Obtaining the Most TUV Rheinland Certifications

This year, ASUS monitors have made significant progress towards low blue light and flicker-free functionality, obtaining TUV Rheinland’s low blue light and flicker-free certification for its various monitor models.

ASUS is now the monitor manufacturer which has obtained the most low blue light product certifications from TUV Rheinland. With its pioneering R&D technology, ASUS has developed 4 low blue light modes and a unique smart dynamic backlight adjustment mode — showcasing the company’s powerful monitor industry strategy and embracing of consumer health concepts.

ASUS’s 4 stage low blue light settings were designed according to different consumer usage habits. The Level 1 mode is aimed towards regular web browsers, reducing blue light by 20%. Level 4 reduces blue light damage, by a maximum of 70%, for users who are in a dim environment for an extended period of time. Consumers can adjust these settings according to their own preferences. ASUS has combined its steady technological competence with TUV Rheinland’s monitor testing technology to focus on a balance between vivid color and health. As Derek Hsu, senior project manager in TUV Rheinland Taiwan’s Electrical/Display Department, states, “TUV Rheinland and our customers are always trying new ways to create value for the future of monitors.”

Nowadays, 3C products have become an inseparable element in people’s lives. The high volume of light which 3C products emit can cause eye damage with long-term use. In order for consumers to gain an easier understanding of monitor functionality when they make purchases, TUV Rheinland has developed a distinct series of testing standards, 2PfG, for monitors. This helps manufacturers emphasize product design and functionality while also allowing consumers to tell whether or not the monitors they purchase possess flicker-free and low blue light functionality, and if they meet TCO ergonomic certification. Monitors granted TUV Rheinland’s certification have passed quality testing and met related safety standards. Consumers can use them over the long term, under normal conditions, with no health or safety concerns.

In pursuit of the ultimate, and as demonstration of its taking of market opinion into consideration, TUV Rheinland plans on developing a color accuracy specific monitor safety standard for heavy computer users so that users of different types can find appropriate products which are provided with safe eye protection functionality.

TUV Rheinland has established various testing capacities in order to meet the demands for different monitors. We established TCO’s first certified laboratory, and have worked closely with TCO over the past decade to bring the world’s most TCO certifications to our ergonomic laboratory. We have comprehensive laboratories in Taipei, Shanghai and Shenzhen in the Greater China region, which have also been certified as U.S. EPA laboratories. TCO certification is one of the most widely used monitor certification marks in the world. The scope of products certified under TCO includes computer monitors, PCs, all-in-one computers, projectors, earphones, tablet PCs, and more. Companies intending to apply for TCO certification soon should pay close attention to the transfer period from TCO 6.0 to 7.0
