Plastic Logic Displays to Drive RoadAds Interactive’s Digital Vehicle Advertising

Plastic Logic, a leader in the design and manufacture of flexible, glass-free electrophoretic displays (EPDs), is partnering with RoadAds interactive to provide its customers with mobile vehicle displays based on flexible oTFT-based ePaper technology.

RoadAds interactive is planning to use Plastic Logic’s innovative 32in displays for ‘digital billboards’ on various vehicles such as vans, trucks and buses for advertising and information. Companies can manage campaigns online, define advertising areas and conditions such as weather or time and get detailed statistics. The campaigns are transferred automatically via 4G and are delivered in real time. Applications include not only advertising (products, recruitment, etc.), but also localised weather and traffic information via geo-targeting.

“Thanks to the fully automatic adaptation of the content, digital vehicle advertising enables completely new communications,” explained Andreas Widmann, CEO, RoadAds interactive. “Displays in road traffic must meet special requirements with regard to road safety – for example, they are not allowed to be back-lit or light emitting. Plastic Logic’s ePaper displays will meet our needs perfectly.”

Tim Burne, CEO, Plastic Logic, said: “We are a leader in the design and manufacture of flexible electrophoretic displays (EPDs), which are far more rugged than standard glass-based EPDs. Being thinner and lighter makes them perfect for applications such as vehicle advertising displays. Our 32in ePaper displays offer high contrast and visibility and are robust enough to be used by RoadAds interactive on all types of vehicles, even in the most challenging conditions.”

RoadAds interactive’s clients include, for example, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Bosch and Burger King and they operate vehicle displays in Europe and Asia with a main focus on the DACH area. The planned adoption of Plastic Logic’s 32in display technology will most likely be first deployed in Germany. Larger display sizes, up to 64in, are also planned. Currently larger sizes are realised by combining multiple 32in displays.
