HP to Split into Two Companies

HP has announced its intention to split into two separate companies, one comprising its enterprise technology infrastructure, software and services businesses, which will operate as Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, while the other will comprise HP’s personal systems and printing businesses, which will do business as HP Inc. Meg Whitman will serve as president and CEO of the newly formed enterprise business and Dion Weisler will have the same roles as head of HP Inc.

Whitman was hired as CEO in September 2011 when she was brought in to replace Leo Apotheker (Display Monitor Vol 18 No 38). Apotheker had been in the role for less than a year and had, at the time of his departure, been considering selling HP’s personal systems group (PSG), including the PC-making business (Display Monitor Vol 18 No 33).
