Samsung Heir Apparent Under Arrest

Samsung’s heir apparent Lee Jae-yong, is under arrest in South Korea. He has been accused of bribery and other charges after first being questioned last month by prosecutors.

Prosecutors accused Mr Lee of giving a $36 million donation to organisations linked to Korean President, Ms Park’s, close friend, Ms Choi. Mr Lee now regrets that he authorised the donation, which was a horse and money to help the equestrian career of Ms Choi’s daughter, Chung Yoo-ra., Mr Lee and the Samsung Group deny any wrongdoing in this matter.

The prosecutors allege this was to win government support for a Samsung restructuring that would favour a leadership transition to Mr Lee, who is temporally acting as chairman. The prosecution are now carrying out further investigations and have 20 days to file formal charges.
