Bob Mansfield Heading Apple Car Project

Bob Mansfield, a former executive at Apple, has been appointed to oversee its nascent car project, sources have told the Wall Street Journal. Mansfield joined Apple in 1999 and was an executive under Steve Jobs, but stepped back from the role and became an adviser to the company in 2013. Since then, he was worked on special projects such as the Apple Watch.

The sources told the WSJ that the car project has been ‘mired in problems’ and that there are ‘hundreds of employees’ working on it. Apple intends to complete the project by 2019, but this is seen by team members as unrealistic. The Information reports that Apple has recently pushed its completion date back to 2021.
