Verizon Describes Its “envrmnt’ Platform

Christian Egeler noted that Verizon is more than just a wireless cellular service provider. They own AOL, The Huffington Post, Hearst Publishing, Engadget, TechCrunch and more, offering services in big data, security, advertising, IOT and CDN. They now see themselves as the bridge between content, advertising, streaming, retail and the network. In VR, they want to be a player too and now are the exclusive provider for the Google Daydream VR headset

Egeler then described their envrmnt platform which is supposed to provide a full bridge as described above – but for VR content. Projects completed so far include a magazine cover for ELE, 360 Huffington Post and RyotVR.

The big message from Verizon seemed to be that the 5G network they are working on will offer the bandwidth and low latency (<10 ms) that will drive VR into the mainstream.
