SmartDisplayer Working on Credit Card Displays

Tucked away in the back of one hall was a small company, Smart Displayer, based in Taiwan, which is working on bank and smart cards that use E Ink EPDs (or LCDs). The company can supply very simple ‘single line’ displays for one time security codes and other small amounts of information or also more high resolution displays that can show more data. Because of the low power consumption, the EPD can run for five years or 70,000 changes. The technology can also be used to generate dynamic QR codes. The company has certification from Visa for security codes and has had a lot of banks around using its technology. It is particularly popular in Korea.

The firm has a ‘SLEKT’ card that it developed with Gemalto that can support contact, contactless and magnetic stripe payment and it claims to be unique in this. The card can be used to replace multiple cards and can be reset from a smartphone using bluetooth if data is lost. Target price for this kind of card is around $100.
