Nokia Buzz is About 3310 – Go Figure!

Nokia brand licensee, HMD, was on the Nokia booth to show off two lines of phones. The attraction of the brand was clear as on the first day, the booth was one of the busiest in Hall 3. The two lines were a range of Android ‘me too’ phones that looked competent, if unexciting, while the big crowd was gathered around the re-released Nokia 3310 feature phone! Clearly, a lot of people don’t realise that Nokia feature phones have remained available (I bought my wife one just a couple of months ago as she regards smartphones as too ‘high tech’).

The 310 is claimed to have 22 hours of talk time and a month of stand-by while the display is a 2.4″ unit with a ‘retro’ interface and 240 x 320 resolution (167ppi). Memory is 16MB (M, not G!) and up to 32GB of microSD storage is available. The camera is a 2MP unit. It is available in Red, Blue, Yellow or Grey.

The Nokia 3, 5 and 6 are all Android phones with 5″ and 5.2″ HD and 5.5″ IPS LCDs. We reported on the 6 when it was launched earlier (New Nokia 6 To Arrive in China) and it is said to be selling well in China already. It will now be sold around the world, where it will have Google Assistant. It will cost $242 when it arrives in Q2.

The 5 uses a Snapdragon 430 with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (expandable up to 256GB). The cameras are 13MP (PDAF) and 8MP. The 3 uses a Mediatek MT6737 with the same memory while the cameras are both 8MP units. Both have autofocus.

All of the Android phones are expected to become available in Q2.
