Absen Makes Rental and Staging Easier

Absen, the well established LED display supplier was the first company that this reporter saw on the show floor. The company had a wide range of products on show and we started by looking at the recent N Series of LEDs, which are available in 2, 3.2, 4 and 5.14mm pitch with 3 and 5mm currently the best sellers. The N series is optimised for retail and showroom applications.

Also on show was the HDV series which is available in 1.2mm, 1.6mm and 1.9mm and which are aimed at the corporate meeting room market. The displays have a brightness of 1,000 cd/m2 and are just 65mm thick. The panels can be maintained from the front and the honeycomb design is intended to keep the display very flat. The displays have a refresh rate of 3840 Hz, which helps with high quality of greyscale. The panels are designed to plug together without cables.

Turning to rental and staging, Absen has the M series, the newest of which is the M2.9 which has light black SMD LEDs (giving contrast of 7,500:1) and with each 168 x 168 pixel panels weighing just 7.6kg. The units are designed to be easy to assemble. There are bars to hold on the back and the locks between the panels are operated by ‘triggers ‘ which can be operated without taking the hands away from the holding bars. The company said that the hands don’t need to be taken off the panel from flight case to fitting. We reported on the prototype last year, but the product is now shipping. The display can create concave or convex configurations.

Absen has a good variety of different LEDs, each optimised for a particular application and the T5 is designed for outdoor applications in sports facilities – it is certified to IP65. It can be used for perimeter display and is based on a pitch of 5.55mm with 5,000cd/m2. Protection is IP65 (front) and IP54 (rear) and panel dimensions are 800 x 900 x 96mm.

As well as modular LEDs, Absen is selling totems and had the outdoor L3 and L6 totem. The L3 has 5000 cd/m2 of output and 3.9mm and with a 1170 x 2380 panel that supports 300 x 610 resolution. The whole system weighs 160 kg and it is rated to IP65 or IP54. Power consumption is 560 W/m2 (max) or 185 W/m2 (ave)

A new development and being ‘previewed’ at the show is a 27″ module 16:9 that is designed to be used in a 2 x 2 array to directly replace 55″ LCD video wall displays. Absen wants to make life easy, so the controller is very standardised with HDMI inputs available as well as USB playback. The modules are available in 1.9mm and 2.5mm pitch and can support brightness of 800 cd/m2. The cabinet is designed to support a VESA mount to make installation simpler. The new modules are expected to be available in Q3 2017.
