SID Honors Luminaries from Around the World

The Society for Information Display (SID) today revealed this year’s industry innovators chosen to join the ranks of SID’s elite Honors and Awards recipients.

These exceptional scientists, engineers and business leaders are selected from a field of highly talented professionals for their remarkable contributions to the field of information display. The 2015 honorees will be recognized during SID’s annual International Honors and Awards Dinner on June 1 during Display Week in San Jose, Calif.

The 17 winners, chosen by the depth of their contribution to display technology, represent the best of the best in the industry. 2015 SID Honors and Awards Recipients

The Karl Ferdinand Braun Prize: Presented for an outstanding technical achievement in, or contribution to, display technology. Dr. Junji Kido, SID Fellow and Professor in the Department of Organic Device Engineering at Yamagata University, receives the Karl Ferdinand Braun Prize for his contributions to the science and technology of OLEDs and pioneering contributions to commercializing white OLEDs for general lighting applications.

The Jan Rajchman Prize: Presented for an outstanding scientific or technical achievement in, or contribution to, research on flat-panel displays.SID Fellow and Guest Professor at Tottori University, Dr. Shohei Naemura is awarded the Jan Rajchman Prize for his achievements in the chemical physics of liquid crystals and contributions to research on LCDs.

The Otto Schade Prize: Awarded for an outstanding scientific or technical achievement in, or contribution to, the advancement of functional performance and/or image quality of information displays. Dr. Ingrid Heynderickx, SID Fellow and Dean of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology, is awarded the Otto Schade Prize for her contributions to the measurement, specification and improvement surrounding display image quality.

The Slottow-Owaki Prize:Awarded for outstanding contributions to the education and training of students and professionals in the field of information displays. Dr. Jin Jang, SID Fellow and Professor at Kyung Hee University, will receive the Slottow-Owaki Prize for his contributions to display education and active-matrix display developments, including AMOLED displays, AMLCDs and flexible displays.

The Lewis and Beatrice Winner Award: Awarded to a Society member for exceptional and sustained service to SID. SID Past President Dr. Allan R. Kmetz, SID Fellow and display-industry consultant, receives the Lewis and Beatrice Winner Award for his noteworthy and sustained service to the Society for more than 40 years. For the last decade, he has served on the editorial board for Information Display Magazine and has held other positions within SID, including bylaws chair and technical symposium chair.

2015 SID Fellow Awards honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the information-display field. This year’s winners are:

  • Principal of Chiang Consulting
  • Researcher at Panasonic Corporation
  • Senior Manager for NEC Corporation
  • Professor and the Michael and Judith Gaulke Endowed Chair at Oregon State University’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
  • Department General Manager at Sharp Corporation

2015 SID Special Recognition Awardsare presented to members of the technical, scientific and business community for distinguished and valued contributions to the information-display field. The 2015 recipients are:

  • Professor and Vice Director of the Materials Structures Laboratory at Tokyo Institute of Technology
  • Vice President of LG Display
  • Faculty Professor of Science and Technology at Keio University
  • Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at Seoul National University
  • Master Researcher at Samsung Display Co.
  • Project Professor at the Graduate School of Science and Technology at Keio University
  • President of Semiconductor Energy Laboratory
